How long will Windows XP live?

Well, I think as long as people find it useful. Of course there is the other question of how long Microsoft will provide support for the OS. In today's connected world you can't have a computer connected to the Internet if you don't receive regular updates for your OS. Take the case of Windows 98 for example. Support for 98 was supposed to end in Jan 2004, but since a large number of PCs didn't migrate to Windows 2000 or XP, Microsoft extended the support through July 2006. What will happen to Windows XP? As I have already said before I am not impressed with Vista at all and for the foreseeable future I'm going to stick with Windows XP as far as practical. It's only practical to stick with an OS if you keep getting regular security updates for it. According to this article support for Windows XP is likely going to be available through 2014!! That's seven more years. I don't know if that is possible or not, but it gives me a breather. I'm not ditching my XP machines just yet.

I just upgraded my personal laptop to Vista

I had been using Vista Sp1 on my office laptop for a while now. I am happy with the performance, battery, boot and resume from sleep. So I decided to try out upgrading my home laptop from XPSP2 to Vista SP1. The upgrade was smooth and all my drivers are working thanks to Windows Update.
